AUSPEV Nationals 2025 – Rulebook & Format

Event Overview

The AUSPEV Nationals is Australia’s premier competition for electric skateboards (e-skates) and electric unicycles (EUCs). Across four days, riders compete in outdoor sprints, indoor endurance, and exhibition races.

Championship Titles:

  • Outdoor Champions → crowned on Day 2 (Outdoor Track Races)

  • Indoor Champions → crowned on Day 3 (Indoor Endurance Races)

  • Series Champions → crowned immediately after Day 3, based on combined points from Day 2 + Day 3

  • Day 4 Spec & Exhibition Races → fun community events (non-championship)

Points System

  • 1st: 15 pts

  • 2nd: 12 pts

  • 3rd: 9 pts

  • 4th: 6 pts

  • 5th: 3 pts

Safety Regulations

  • Helmet: Full-face, AS/NZS 1698:2006 certified, mandatory.

  • Protective Gear: Gloves, knee pads, elbow pads strongly recommended.

  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes mandatory.

  • Vehicle Readiness: Riders are responsible for ensuring their e-skate or EUC is safe and race-ready. Officials may disallow unsafe vehicles.

  • Action Cameras and Recording Devices

    1. Permitted Use:
      Riders are permitted to use action cameras during official practice, qualifying, and race sessions, provided that:

      • The camera is securely mounted to the rider’s body, helmet, or vehicle using a fixed mount; and

      • The camera and mount do not pose a hazard to the rider or others, and do not obstruct the view or movement of any other competitor.

    2. Prohibited Equipment:

      • The use of extending mounts, selfie sticks, handheld poles, or any other device that extends beyond the rider’s natural body profile or vehicle footprint is strictly prohibited during racing.

      • Cameras that are not securely fastened or have the potential to detach during regular racing movements will not be permitted on track.

    3. Marshal Discretion:
      Race officials reserve the right to inspect or deny the use of any camera setup that is deemed unsafe, obstructive, or non-compliant with these rules.

  • Track Conduct: Respect officials and fellow competitors, avoid unsafe overtakes, and follow instructions. Strictly no contact.

  • False Starts: Time penalties will be applied.
    -EUC Race Start Procedure

    1. Stationary Start Requirement:
      All Electric Unicycle (EUC) competitors must begin each race from a complete stationary position. The wheel must remain motionless until the official start signal is given.

    2. Foot Placement:
      Riders must have one foot firmly planted on the ground and one foot positioned on a pedal prior to the start signal. Balancing with both feet on the pedals before the start is not permitted.

    3. Race Start Signal:
      Once the start lights or sound signal is activated, the rider may push off and mount their second foot onto the remaining pedal to commence the race.

    4. False Starts:
      Any movement or attempt to mount both pedals before the official start signal will be considered a false start.

      • First offence: official warning or restart at Race Control’s discretion.

      • Subsequent offence: may result in time penalties or disqualification from the heat.

    5. Marshal Enforcement:
      Start line marshals and race officials are authorized to monitor compliance and may reposition or restart a rider found to be in breach of these requirements.

  • Alcohol & Drugs: Strictly prohibited.

  • Race Jerseys: Official AUSPEV jerseys must be worn in all qualifying, racing, and practice sessions.

Rider Contact

Contact between riders is strictly prohibited. All participants must ride responsibly and maintain control to avoid collisions or interference with others on track. Where contact between two or more riders occurs, officials will assess the circumstances. If the contact is determined to be deliberate, penalties will apply, including time deductions or disqualification. If contact is judged to be severe, reckless, or dangerous, the rider(s) involved may be excluded from the event. Officials’ decisions are final. Riders are expected to report unsafe behaviour or contact incidents to race officials as soon as possible. Officials may review footage or witness statements when assessing penalties.

Track Boundaries

Riders must remain within the marked track limits at all times. Cutting corners, crossing barriers, or leaving the track to gain an advantage is not permitted. If a rider leaves the track, they must rejoin safely without interfering with others. Gaining time or position by leaving the course may result in penalties or disqualification. During races, no non-riders are permitted on the track until all competitors have safely exited the course.
